2008 Tutor Luncheon

 

 

Imagine being in a foreign country and trying to order off a restaurant menu, find a hotel or transportation. Inability to communicate can limit opportunities and create unlimited stress. Partners in English Language Learning, formerly known as Literacy Council of Nevada County is a non-profit organization which exists to help non-native speakers become thriving members of our community by providing the necessary language skills to help them integrate successfully. The council carefully matches volunteer tutors to students in an effort to teach everyday English and American culture to eager pupils.

It's not necessary for volunteers to be multi-lingual or have experience teaching ESL. The next Tutor Training session begins in September 2008.

There is a small fee of $25.00 for a book and materials. After completing the training, volunteers will be matched with a student. Tutors and students meet once or twice a week in locations that are convenient to both. Join Partners in English Language Learning, and make life easier for newcomers to our community. We all profit from it.

Our 1st annual Tutor & Student Potluck was a big success! Thanks to Becky Schultz and her husband for hosting the event on their property which was beautiful and the perfect location!
